How much does micro1 pay by field?

Updated October 18, 2026

Short answer: It depends a lot on your field. On Oct 18, 2026, micro1 listed 37 law roles at $60 to $400/hr, 15 finance roles at $80 to $350/hr, 31 medicine roles at $45 to $230/hr, and 11 science roles at $45 to $200/hr, while healthcare operations roles listed $20 to $70/hr. Software, data science, consulting, and general roles spread too widely to sum up in one range, so check the individual listings.

What does micro1 list for each field?

micro1 posts pay on each individual role, not as one company-wide rate. Knackboard groups those listings by field every day for its quiz. Here is the full picture from the Oct 18, 2026 listings:

FieldListed rolesListed hourly pay

Each range runs from the lowest rate on any hourly listing in that field to the highest. When the top of a field's range is more than 8 times the bottom, we show "varies by role" instead, because a single range would hide more than it tells you. Role counts include a few full-time salaried jobs at micro1 itself (3 of the 37 law listings, for example). Those are left out of the hourly ranges.

Which fields pay the most on micro1?

Law and finance have both the highest ceilings and the highest floors. In law, 19 of the 34 hourly listings started at $100/hr or more. In finance, every hourly listing started at $80/hr or more. Medicine and the sciences come next, with engineering, accounting, and healthcare operations lower. Here is what sits inside those ranges.

Law ($60 to $400/hr)

The top of the range comes from BigLaw-style listings, such as corporate, M&A, and litigation associate roles aimed at lawyers from large firms, listed at $140 to $400/hr. Litigation, bankruptcy, tax, employment, and compliance attorney roles mostly listed $100 to $170/hr. Contract and transactional counsel roles were in the $85 to $130/hr band, and the lowest listing was a general lawyer role at $60 to $70/hr. For more on legal roles, see does micro1 hire lawyers.

Finance ($80 to $350/hr)

Investment banking, M&A advisory, and equity research expert roles listed $175 to $300/hr, and an investment and finance expert role listed $245 to $280/hr. Personal finance roles for the US, Canada, and the UK were $90 to $110/hr, and a rates trader role was $80 to $100/hr.

Medicine ($45 to $230/hr)

Many physician listings, including hospitalist and US-licensed physician roles, were $80 to $125/hr. Bilingual psychiatrist and psychologist roles (Japanese, Vietnamese, Cantonese, and Georgian speakers) listed $100 to $200/hr, and one physician expert role listed $230/hr. Registered nurse roles were $60 to $70/hr, and adolescent mental health specialist roles were $45 to $95/hr. Science ($45 to $200/hr)

Physics, biology, and chemistry share one group. PhD physics roles listed $100 to $200/hr. Most PhD-level biology and chemistry roles, including computational biology and drug discovery, were $45 to $90/hr, with a general STEM expert role at $60 to $120/hr.

Engineering

Mechanical engineering ($40 to $150/hr) is mostly CAD work: many CAD expert roles listed $40 to $80/hr, with CFD engineer and CAD expert roles reaching $150/hr and inspection roles (NDT, aviation, welding) at $70 to $130/hr. The 3 electrical engineering roles listed $60 to $120/hr.

Accounting and healthcare operations

Accounting ($30 to $120/hr) had a small number of listings, from an accountant and auditor role at $50 to $70/hr to a senior accountant expert role at $60 to $120/hr. Healthcare operations ($20 to $70/hr) is the lowest-paid expert group: medical coder roles ran from $20 to $32/hr up to $50 to $70/hr for certified coders (CCS or CIC), with Medicare enrollment and benefits roles in between.

Software, data science, and consulting (varies)

These fields have real high-end listings, but also many at ordinary contract rates. In software engineering, a lot of listings were $30 to $100/hr or $50 to $100/hr, while a handful of specialist, research, and open source maintainer roles listed $150/hr and up, topping out at $400/hr. In data science, data scientist and applied scientist roles listed $245 to $280/hr, machine learning roles $60 to $140/hr, and data analyst roles $30 to $60/hr. Consulting ran from recruiting roles at about $35 to $55/hr up to consulting specialist roles at $150 to $350/hr and a management consultant role at $245 to $280/hr.

General (84 roles, varies)

This is the biggest group and the widest. It includes writing and education roles, such as journalist and assessor writer roles at $90 to $140/hr and a senior book editor at $80 to $120/hr, but also video recording, data annotation, and transcription work that listed as low as $6/hr. If you have a specific profession, you will usually do better in your own field's listings than in general ones.

What do reviewers say?

micro1's Trustpilot profile showed 4.7 stars from 10,893 reviews on Oct 18, 2026, with 83% five-star and 3% one-star reviews. micro1 invites people to leave reviews, and most recent ones are about the interview itself rather than pay. The negative reviews describe a different problem: lots of interviews and "Not Qualified" or "Not Selected" results without landing a role, slow onboarding, and support that is hard to reach.
